Damaging winds and hail forecast for parts of southern Qld

UPDATE: Severe thunderstorms are no longer occurring in Queensland.

The immediate threat of severe thunderstorms has passed, but the situation will continue to be monitored by the Bureau of Meteorology.

EARLIER: THE Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for damaging winds and large hailstones for the Southeast Coast and parts of the Wide Bay Burnett, Darling Downs and Granite Belt Forecast Districts.   

 Locations which may be affected include Gold Coast, Brisbane, Maroochydore, Gympie, Coolangatta, Ipswich, Moreton Bay and islands, Noosa and Caloundra. 

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:   

* Move your car under cover or away from trees. 

* Secure loose outdoor items. 

* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees. 

* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm. 

* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines. 

* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.   

BOM have issued a separate storm warning for people in the Logan, Gold Coast, Redland, Brisbane, Brisbane and parts of the Ipswich, Somerset, Scenic Rim, Lockyer Valley and Moreton Bay Council Areas.
