Dancer with attitude dominates
IT was all about attitude for Kaitlyn Burton yesterday.
Yesterday the 10-year-old demanded a pink Prada tote, a Tiffany hair band and Jimmy Choo flip-flops.
She wanted to be fabulous.
But her diva attitude yesterday was all part of her stage act in the Rockhampton Dance Festival.
However, mum Jo said it wasn't such a far cry from young Kaitlyn at home.
“When her dance teacher gave her this routine I laughed because it was perfect,” Mrs Burton joked yesterday.
“The attitude is very similar - but I really enjoyed watching it.”
Kaitlyn, 10, performed Fabulous, a song from High School Musical 2, at the Pilbeam Theatre wearing a white, sequined outfit, blonde wig and pink sunglasses.
And her dramatic song and dance performance paid off as she walked away with first place yesterday.
Kaitlyn said the routine was really fun to learn and was pleased with her final performance.
The cabaret/novelty solo section was not the only segment The Rockhampton Academy of Dancing student is competing in this school holidays.
She's already taken home a second, two thirds and a very highly commended.
But she'll be spending her entire holidays at the theatre as she competes in about 20 sections. When Kaitlyn is older she hopes to become a dance teacher.
In the same section as Kaitlyn, Sheridan Marcy was second with her performance to If I Only Had a Brain, Thomas Weatherall and Karah Bailey were third and Brianna Tarlington was highly commended.
