Danger ends in death

A DRIVER will face court today charged with causing the death of a motorcyclist on the Bruce Highway near Torbanlea on the weekend.

The 23-year-old Brisbane man will face the Maryborough Magistrates Court on a charge of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death.

His northbound Holden Commodore collided with an oncoming motorcycle about 7am on Saturday, killing the male rider and severely injuring his female passenger.

The 62-year-old rider from Bundaberg was airlifted by the AGL Action Rescue Helicopter to Bundaberg Base Hospital, where he later died.

His 62-year-old female pillion passenger, also from Bundaberg, was airlifted to Brisbane in a critical condition.

The highway was closed for about six hours following the crash.

Emergency crews worked to stabilise the motorbike rider at the scene for more than half an hour, before he was airlifted.

Along with his passenger, two other people were also injured, Queensland Fire and Rescue Service Maryborough station officer Shaun Murphy said.

"The male rider of the motorbike was airlifted out with severe injuries and his female passenger has also been transported to hospital with serious injuries as well," Mr Murphy said.

"A male passenger from the car has also been taken to hospital with minor injuries but the male driver of the car appears to be uninjured."
