Date nights under $50

Nothing is more romantic than a picnic with a cracking view.
Nothing is more romantic than a picnic with a cracking view.

ACCORDING to The Bachelor falling in love involves helicopter rides, private jets, shopping trips, and we mustn't forget the hot tubs.

Unfortunately unless you're a Real Housewife of Beverly Hills your date night ideas are going to be a little less grandiose.

Lucky for you we've found the best date night ideas in Brisbane for under $50.

1. Go for a classic

Picnics will always be romantic for the guy or girl who appreciates a no-fuss date. Gather some local cheese, salads and a bottle of wine from The Stores and take it all down to Orleigh Park in West End. Don't forget the rug!

Cost: As little or as much as you want!

2. Cheap city eats

Brisbane City has some affordable restaurants that don't skimp on big flavour. Try Miss Kay's for your burger fix, Kotobuki for top-notch Japanese (order the Lion King roll), or Fat Noodle for a warming bowl of beef pho. Head off on foot to explore the CBD - a stroll through the City Botanic Gardens is a must.

Cost: From $10pp (And your date never even has to know if you pick up the bill)

3. You can never go wrong with Brunch

Show your significant other you're a savvy saver by using the Brisbane's Avo on Toast Index. The average punter in Brisbane pays $13.80 for avo on toast not the $22 Bernard Salt believes we do. Which means you should be able to put that extra $8.20 towards that all-important house deposit, or anything you want really - we're a website, not your parents.

Cost: Definitely less than $22pp

4. Ain't no mountain high enough

A 16km hike over nine hours at 1351m above sea level? Challenge accepted. Lace up your most comfortable runners for a day spent climbing some of the most challenging mountains around Brisbane.

Cost: Free

5. Hit the road, Jack

Escape to the country where the air is clearer and the grass is greener. Here are 23 scenic drives for you to take. Nothing tests the strength of a relationship more than a road trip. You've been warned.

Cost: Fuel
