Day-time thieves target and vandalise Christmas lights

A TIME for giving was tarnished by brazen thieves who have "shattered" a young family.

Mother-of-two Tonissa Sidari had to explain to her boys, aged four and two-and-a-half, someone had stolen their Chirstmas lights from their Kerrigan St home on Tuesday.

"All the lights were there in the morning before I left to do daycare drop off and grocery shopping," Tonissa said.

"I came home about 3.40pm to find our reindeer stolen which was pegged into the ground, and our other lights were broken into pieces which we were left to pick up.

"It's just such a disappointment to see at this time of year when we are meant to help people in need and spread joy and you get people like this that take advantage and have no respect, and to do it in the middle of the day I just don't understand."

Tonissa said the past four months had been bumpy after her four year old was diagnosed with scoliosis and required physio every couple of weeks.

Without private health, medical expenses have left the family "out of pocket", making the loss of more than $100 worth of lights a significant blow.

But Tonissa said the true Christmas spirit shone through after she turned to Facebook "not asking for anything but to be heard".

She said she was shocked to discover others had experienced similar situations.

"But I also had some lovely people from our community out of the kindness of their hearts donate some lights which will help gain some joy and spirit back to my sons," she said.

"I could never be so grateful for the people that have helped."
