Dean Ray new X Factor favourite after Reigan's close call

DEAN Ray has risen to the top of The X Factor's popularity stakes after last night's surprise result.

Mentor Redfoo was in a lose-lose situation when his two remaining over-25 singers Reigan Derry and Jason Heerah landed in the bottom two on the reality singing show.

Derry had been the hot favourite to win the show but the public vote swung out of her favour this week.

Father-of-two Heerah was eliminated after Redfoo sent the elimination decider to a deadlock, revealing he had received fewer votes than Derry.

Ray is now the $2.20 favourite to win the 2014 title, according to SportsBet, while Brothers 3 have jumped from $6 to $3.50.

Gympie country singer Caitlynn Shadbolt was the first singer named as safe, and the 18-year-old was clearly surprised after spending the past few weeks in the bottom two.

The Top 5 singers will perform two songs on Sunday, with host Luke Jacobz promising a few "curveballs".
