THE Governor-General has approved the next appointments for the new Chief of the Army and Chief of the Air Force.

Lieutenant General Angus Campbell will be appointed his role of Chief of the Army on May 16 after serving as the Commander for the highly successful Operation Sovereign Borders and on operations in Timor-Leste and the Middle East.

He also served as Deputy National Security Adviser in the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet.

Air Vice-Marshal Gavin Davies - on promotion to Air Marshal - will be appointed to his role of Chief of the Air Force on July 4.

He has a wide range of operational, command and staff experience, including deploying to the Middle East, being in command of 82 Wing, posting as Air Attaché in Washington and most recently serving as the Deputy Chief of the Air Force.

Lieutenant General Campbell and Air Marshal Davies each bring a wealth of experience to their new
respective roles.

The Government has thanked the current Chief of the Army, Lieutenant General David Morrison and Chief of the Air Force, Air Marshal Geoff Brown, for their significant work and service to their important roles over the last four years.

Lieutenant General David Morrison will finish his role on May 15 after having served with distinction and demonstrating outstanding leadership as the Chief of the Army, notably as an advocate for cultural change and gender equality in the Australian Defence Force.

Air Marshal Geoff Brown will finish his role on July 3 having also demonstrated exceptional leadership throughout his military career, particularly in his role as the Chief of the Air Force during a period of significant capability growth within the Air Force and heightened operational commitments, including currently against the ISIL death cult in Iraq.
