Delays hit Rocky mail deliveries

A LARGE backlog of parcels intended for Rockhampton people should be cleared by tomorrow, an Australia Post spokeswoman says.

On Thursday, Australia Post communications adviser Sarah Gordon confirmed a contractor for the Rockhampton area had recently been terminated which had caused the backlog.

"There is currently 3900 parcels for delivery in Rockhampton and these parcels are being delivered by 10 drivers," Ms Gordon said.

"We are currently experiencing a one day delivery delay and we will be delivering parcels this Saturday to clear.

"While we search for a suitable replacement contractor, our office and casual staff will maintain the delivery of parcels to Rockhampton residents."

She said confidentiality reasons prevented her being able to provide more detail as to why the contractor's position was terminated.

Earlier this week a Morning Bulletin reader contacted the paper to express her disappointment at the delay.

The reader, who asked not to be identified, said she was still waiting for a parcel which was posted in Sydney on Tuesday, February 7.

She said she was told earlier this week the backlog had been as big as 10,000 parcels.
