Emily's design eye creates the dream formal dress

WHEN Emily Fletchett couldn't find a formal dress she liked off the rack, she didn't want to settle for second best.

Instead, she set about designing her own.

The Emmaus College graduate worked with Rockhampton dressmaker Rosalia Gerrard at Tendencias to bring her dream dress to life and said she was thrilled with the final result.

The dress was in the planning phase for a long time, with Emily showing the first designs to Rosalia last year and refining them throughout 2015.

Emily said she found inspiration online for the dress, which features Swarovski jewels, and had plenty of guidance from Rosalia.

Having picked up the dress only two days before the formal, Emily said she was excited to see all the plans come together.

"It was definitely everything I wanted," Emily said.

While Emily said she enjoyed designing the dress and loved fashion, she's hoping to study in a medical-related field next year.

"I definitely love fashion, so who knows what will happen."
