Develop your own emergency plan

AN emergency plan is an important step in preparing for what can happen and how to stay safe.

Develop your Emergency Plan with the entire household and talk about:

  1. If you live in a flood-prone area or, if your home is at risk from storm tide, what would you do?
  2. If you're separated when a disaster happens (at work or school), how will you stay in touch with loved ones and where will you meet?
  3. Where would you go if you need to evacuate your household?
  4. Compiling a list of emergency contact phone numbers.
  5. If anyone in your family, household or neighbourhood has specific medical conditions or special needs and will need assistance.

You should include specific items in your emergency kit to assist people with communication or mobility difficulty.

Also, you should arrange to notify anyone with a hearing impairment of emergency warnings and other key information, and assist anyone with a sight impairment or mobility difficulty if evacuation is required.

Also, consider whether you need to make plans for your pets.
