Device blocks falling debris
BRANT Webb knows first-hand about mining safety gone wrong.
The Beaconsfield Mine disaster survivor turned Excess Baggage reality TV star has now become the face of one of the newest mining and construction safety devices, the BLH Stop Drop Safety Barricading System.
And yesterday he was showing the new gadget off at Rockhampton's CQ Expo.
"It's something I'm really proud to be a part of because falling objects on a mine or construction site can kill, and this will save lives," Brant said.
The safety contraption is a simple plastic polymer barricading system, designed to combat one of the world's most common causes of workplace injuries and fatalities - being hit by a falling object.
Brant said the product was launched three weeks ago and the CQ Expo was one of the stops on getting the product known.
"I go to Chile in weeks to promote it there so hopefully it goes well and Rocky is a great place to promote as well," he said.
The 2012 Central Queensland Transport Trades and Mining Expo was off to a great start yesterday, with many coming through the gates to see what was on offer and exhibitors happy about the response from visitors so far.
The CQ Expo continues today from 9am to 5pm at the Rockhampton Showgrounds.
