Diggers girls establish supremacy

LOOK out for the ladies from the Diggers Memorial Bowls Club as this year they are literally on a roll.

This year Diggers took all four events in the CQDLBA District Championships, the first time the club, in fact any club, has successfully completed the feat.

The championship was played over four days during the one week with matches staged at Yeppoon, Diggers and also the Rockhampton Bowls Club.

Seven clubs from around the district entered the championship competing in Singles, Pairs, Triples and Fours matches during that period.

To reach the final stage of the event teams had to win at club level with the clubs around the district determining their winner over the course of a year.

Those clubs entering teams were Diggers, North Rockhampton, Victoria Park, Yeppoon, Emu Park, Gracemere and Rockhampton.

The Fours went to Diggers on Tuesday, The Singles to Diggers on Wednesday and then to make the week complete Diggers took out the Pairs and Triples on Thursday.

With every winner there has to be an unfortunate loser and in the Singles and Pairs Victoria Park was the runner-up to Diggers, while Yeppoon had to settle for second place in both the Triples and the Fours.

The Diggers team of eight was: Singles Edna Lewis; Pairs Mona Owen, Kay McCrohon; Triples Patricia Ward, Denise Hoare, Doris Vagg; Fours Mona Owen, Helen Ingham, Dot Macoun, Edna Lewis.
