Disadvantage hits women more than low pay

DISADVANTAGE across all areas of women's lives are possibly bigger factors in reducing the amount Australia's women can retire with, Anglicare Australia has argued.

The national community group was heard at a Senate committee examining the economic security of women in retirement on Thursday.

While disparity between male and female incomes was an issue, Anglicare argued overall disadvantage was the bigger picture.

The group said low incomes, precarious job security and high housing costs were disproportionately affecting women.
