Distillery on track to open for Christmas celebrations
BUNDABERG'S newest distillery is taking shape, next door to Schmeiders Cooperage in East Bundaberg, and is on track to open before the end of the year.
Waterview Distilling Company's distiller and brand manager Rick Prosser said the business hoped to have the building open to the public by Christmas.
"This will be a new distillery experience for Bundaberg - a lot more personal," Mr Prosser said.
"Tours will come through a small-scale distilling process happening in a lot more intimate way.
"It will be very experimental and being beside the cooperage is the perfect location."
With vodka, gin and rum all to be produced on site, Waterview aims to make uniquely Australian products by including flavouring derived from native plants and water from Fraser Island.
Bundaberg businessman Matthew Drane, who is funding Waterview's resurgence, said each visit to Waterview would be unique, depending on what type of alcohol was being distilled at the time.
Mr Drane said once people saw the premises finished he expected there to be much interest in company shares, which will be offered to the public.
"I think these days people like to see what they are investing in," he said.
