Diver with decompression sickness airlifted to Brisbane

A 38-YEAR-OLD man suffering from decompression sickness was airlifted from a water police boat to Rockhampton by RACQ Capricorn Helicopter Rescue.

The man was 100 nautical miles off the Capricorn Coast when he was retrieved by water police and taken on board to wait for the chopper.

Upon arrival RACQ Capricorn Rescue winched a rescue crewman, intensive care paramedic and stretcher onto the deck of the police boat.

The patient was winched into the helicopter and taken to Rockhampton in a stable condition, for onward transport to Brisbane.
