Scheme to solve pothole problem
POTHOLES are spreading throughout the region and one councillor is calling for the community to help the Rockhampton Regional Council get on top of the problem.
Yesterday Cr Stephen Schwarten announced the “Dob in a pothole” initiative, where residents can phone or use the council website to let it know about potholes in their area.
Mr Schwarten said he wanted people to become the “eyes and ears” of the council which looked after 3300km of roads in the region.
He said the state of some streets in Rockhampton was only getting worse and the community needed to help the council get on top of the problem.
“People might laugh and say, ‘It's only a pothole' but if you have a pothole in front of your house and you back over it every day that becomes the biggest issue to you vis-a-vis the council.”
Mr Schwarten said he was determined the new initiative would work and asked for residents to contact him personally if they were not satisfied with the council response.
“It's worth a try. Let's have a look at what people will say about it.”
