Doctor jailed for sex abuse stripped of licence

A LOCKYER Valley GP who was jailed for sexually abusing nine female patients has had his medical licence revoked.

Nemalan Seshagiri Moodley, 44, pleaded guilty to nine offences in the Ipswich District Court in December, 2012, and was subsequently sentenced to four years behind bars.

He successfully appealed his sentence the following year on the grounds it was manifestly excessive.

The Court of Appeal quashed his initial sentence and ordered he be released from prison on parole after serving 12 months instead of 16 months.

The court heard Moodley - who was a practising GP in Gatton, Laidley and Plainlands between 2003 and 2009 - rubbed his genitals against the female patients who had consulted him for a range of medical issues.

His victims ranged in age from 17 to 40.

When Moodley was released from the Wolston Correctional Centre, he was immediately deported.

The Queensland Medical Board last month argued Moodley's medical licence should be revoked because his conduct constituted unsatisfactory professional conduct under the organisation's ethics code.

The Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal agreed the disgraced GP's conduct warranted his licence being stripped.

Judge Alexander Horneman-Wren said in his decision that Moodley's conduct was clearly misconduct in a professional respect and conduct discreditable to the medical profession.

"There is no evidence at all before the tribunal which would, in any way, satisfy it that Dr Moodley is a person who ought to continue to hold registration as a medical practitioner in Queensland," he said.

"There is no evidence of any insight or remorse in respect of his conduct."
