Donald Trump’s wife Melania rejects his affectionate advance

US PRESIDENT Donald Trump copped the ultimate rejection as he arrived in Israel on Monday.

Mr Trump gave the cameras a wave as he and his wife Melania, who was playing the part of the First Lady dressed head-to-toe in white, left Air Force One at Tel Aviv airport.

As they walked across the tarmac, Mr Trump reached for his wife's hand but she abruptly swatted his hand away.

Walking across the tarmac with the Trumps was Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife Sara, who were showing their affections by holding hands.

A video of Mr Trump's wife of 12 years swatting him away has gone viral on Facebook and Twitter.

This isn't the first time an awkward moment between Mr Trump and Melania has been caught on camera.

Last month Melania nudged her husband while he was daydreaming during his first Easter Egg Roll at the White House.

She saved him from an embarrassing breach of protocol, when he forgot to raise his hand to his heart for the national anthem.

According to Israeli publication Haaretz, while walking on the tarmac at the Tel Aviv airport, Mr Trump was told Mrs Netanyahu was a big fan of the American First Lady.

"I love her. I'm also a fan," Mrs Netanyahu said.

"I talk every place about her, how great she is, how great you are.

"Because the majority of people, unlike the media, love us. So they love you, too. We have very much in common."

Haaretz reports there were a number of awkward moments involving the US president after he got off the plane.

Neither the prime minister or the president knew where to stand when they reached the end of the red carpet on the tarmac and Mrs Netanyahu had to nudge her husband because he was in the wrong spot.

"We have all this protocol, but we never know what to do," the prime minister said to Mr Trump.

The US president then asked "what is the protocol?" and the prime minister responded, "who knows?".
