Bradley isn't discounting need for bargains in Rockhampton
BRADLEY Walton has brought bargains back into Rockhampton's CBD.
His new discount store, Brad's Bargain Box, opened its doors for the first time on Saturday in East St.
Brad, 32, said he was excited to reintroduce discounted products to the public since the recent closing of Crazy Clark's and Sam's Warehouse.
"I have always wanted my own store," he said.
"I think there was definitely a gap in the market especially on south side and East St since the recent closures.
"Brad's is going to be different to your traditional discount store.
"We are going to be stocking a new product each week and really focus on giving people quality products for cheap."
The new store owner has worked in the discount variety business all his life and is using his experience to give customers what they really want.
"We got some really positive feedback from the customers who said they were really happy that there is a discount retailer back in the area," he said.
"A lot of people who came through said they were really happy that this is a locally owned store and not a chain store and that's what people want.
"When you come into Brad's Bargain Box you are going to see Brad."
Other local business owners have raised concerns recently about a lack of parking in Rockhampton's CBD and a growing number of empty shop fronts along East St.
However, Brad believes East St is on its way to a revamp.
"I think this area has a lot of potential and that's part of the reason why I wanted this location," he said.
"It's such a central area. On a Saturday or Sunday morning it is a really nice place with the boutiques and cafe's so I think if the businesses work together we can accommodate that lifestyle."
