DIESEL fitters are in demand across the Mackay region with dozens of high-paying opportunities on offer.

Stellar Workforce recruitment staff are on the hunt for 30 qualified diesel fitters needed urgently for ongoing roles in Moranbah, with pay rates from $55-58 per hour.

The recruitment agency say the roles are with a specialist mining company looking after a fleet of heavy mobile plant equipment, with successful candidates to carry out repairs, maintenance and diagnostics for excavators as well as heavy mobile earthmoving equipment.

Stellar aren't the only recruitment agency scouring the region for diesel fitters with East Coast Diesel Service also on the hunt for 10 qualified workers.

The Proserpine-based contract maintenance and labour hire company need to fill a number of roles in the Bowen Basic coalfields immediately, with pay rates up to $67/hr.

East Coast Diesel manager Grant Fraser said the demand for diesel fitters was due to an influx of projects ramping up across the region.

"Since about November last year things started to ramp up and have been going gang-busters since," Mr Fraser said.

"These 10 roles are across a number of projects. We service Collinsville Coal and Newlands Coal."

Mr Fraser said there was definitely a lack of experienced diesel fitters in the region.

"We have never been able to find 10 diesel fitters at one time. We have been advertising for three months. There are a lot of applicants without industry experience and we need experienced people in these roles," he said.

"I think a lot of people are testing the waters at the moment... they are applying but are already employed. It's hard to know which applications are genuine."
