Car 'destroyed' in IGA crash: driver charged

A MAN who crashed his car into Kingaroy's Supa IGA on Sunday about 1pm has been charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle while allegedly affected by intoxicating substances.

Kingaroy Police officer-in-charge Senior Sergeant Duane Frank said the 28-year-old Kingaroy driver had only just returned to his car after he crashed into another vehicle at the intersection near IGA.

When he returned to his car after the crash, Snr Sgt Frank said he allegedly reversed at a high speed across the road, with his door still open.

Snr Sgt Frank said he collided with another vehicle "tearing the door off the car" and continued to reverse across the road.

He allegedly crossed the traffic island, crashed into the IGA building and then catapulted off the building back into the intersection.

Snr Sgt Frank said a total of three cars were involved in the series of crashes.

Fire emergency services, ambulance, SES and police all attended at the scene.

Snr Sgt Frank said the man's behaviour at the scene was allegedly erratic and he was taken to Kingaroy Hospital for a blood sample.

He said the 28-year-old suffered minor lacerations and his Ford sedan was "completely destroyed" and towed from the scene.

The man's licence was immediately suspended.

Snr Sgt Frank said it was "very very fortunate and lucky no pedestrians were on the footpath outside IGA" at the time.

The driver will face Kingaroy Magistrates Court on January 18.
