Driver left with a sinking feeling at boat ramp

FOR one tourist, it will be a long time before he forgets a visit to Coffs Harbour.

A Honda Civic under water at the boat ramp near the Coffs Harbour Deep Sea Fishing Club is evidence of a late night drive gone horribly wrong - and it appears alcohol is to blame.

Early reports indicated a couple went to take a closer look at the boat ramp by driving down it and chose the wrong gear when trying to exit.

Further investigation reveals that at 2am on Thursday, the silver vehicle was driven into the water after a wrong turn was taken after a late night at the Fishos.

The Advocate understands the driver escaped through the driver's side window which luckily wound down before water had the chance to short out the electronic switch.

The vehicle was salvaged by Peter Dubois Smash Repairs with a couple of members of the team needing to get wet to get the job done.
