Drunk man driving from Gympie to Gold Coast

A GYMPIE man more than three times over the legal blood-alcohol limit has been jailed after Gympie Magistrates Court heard he aimed to drive all the way to the Gold Coast.

The prosecution told the court Simon John Chamberlain, 54, fortunately was stopped by police.

Chamberlain was intercepted by police at 3am on April 4 along River Rd some 3km from his residence.

A roadside breath test produced a reading of .165, while a licence check revealed he was driving disqualified.

Chamberlain pleaded guilty to charges of drink-driving and disqualified driving and was sentenced to

seven months in jail with a parole release date of September 2.

He was disqualified from driving for three years and nine months.
