'Drunk man let 12yo drive'

A MAN has been charged after he allegedly let a 12-year-old boy drive a four-wheel drive on Fraser Island, while he was drunk in the passenger seat.

Around 1.35pm on Thursday, police stopped a four wheel drive on Eastern Beach, Eurong when they allegedly noticed a young boy driving the vehicle.

A 48-year-old man was in the passenger seat, and a 14-year-old boy was allegedly sitting in the back seat without a seatbelt.

The man, from Australian Capital Territory, was breathalysed and allegedly gave a reading of 0.113%.

He was charged with charged with drink driving in charge of a motor vehicle; permitting unlicensed driving and permitting a passenger under 16 to be unrestrained.

He is due to face Hervey Bay Magistrates Court on February 29.

The Queensland Police State Traffic Task Force is holding a traffic enforcement operation on Fraser Island for the end of school holidays and Australia Day.
