Kyogle teen in 150km/h chase, busted for drink driving twice

A KYOGLE teenager spent last night in jail after allegedly being caught drink driving twice and leading police on a high-speed chase through Lismore.

Police say the 18-year-old had been taken to Lismore Police Station at 3am Sunday after being picked up by a random breath test and had just been charged with driving with a blood alcohol reading of 0.117 when he left the station, hopped in his car and drove off.

Police went after the youth, who led them on a chase at speeds of up to 150km/h from Woodlark Street to Ballina Road via Rotary Drive.

Even after blowing his tyres going around a corner, police allege the teen continued trying to escape, reaching speeds of up to 80km/h on bare rims.

The teen eventually gave up, stopping at Woodlark Street.

He was charged with a second count of drink driving - this time at a lower level of 0.085 - and with failing to stop for the police (Skye's Law), and driving while his license was suspended.

He was refused bail and is scheduled to appear at Lismore Local Court today.
