Education community forum Thursday

EDUCATION proposals for the future of Queensland will be open to public comment at a community forum in Rockhampton tomorrow.

The proposals centre on funds coming from the LNG mining royalties.

The community forum will discuss the Queensland Labor Party's From Mines to Minds: A Queensland Education Trust vision.

The two options being considered include establishing individual trust accounts for education and establishing a dedicated education fund.

Under the proposed options, the individual trust accounts would mean every child born on or after July 1 this year would have a nest egg valued between $7800 and $9500 when they turn 18.

The dedicated education fund would mean an investment fund would be set up where the proceeds would be reinvested by government in education and training initiatives beyond the basics throughout the schooling years and potentially beyond.

The community forum will be held at Rockhampton State High School on Campbell St from 6.30pm to 8.30pm tomorrow night.

Other feedback options include writing to Education Trust, PO Box 15185, Brisbane, 4000 or completing an online survey at www.getinvolved.qld.gov.au/gi/consultation/205/view.html.
