Elderly tourist dies at Whitsundays

A 70-YEAR-OLD man died after suffering a heart condition while snorkelling in the Whitsundays this morning.

A Whitsunday Water Police spokesman said the man was retrieved from the water and taken back to the Fantasea Reefworld pontoon, where he fell ill at about 11am.

The spokesman said CPR was performed by crew onboard the pontoon but he was unable to be revived.

The man was visiting from the United Kingdom.

An investigation was underway, he said.
