Elderly Yeppoon man dies after his scooter collides with car

IN a scene witnesses described as horrid, an elderly man was killed after his scooter collided with a car near the centre of Yeppoon on Saturday morning.

Although his next of kin had been advised, police had not released the name of the 86-year-old Yeppoon man yesterday.

The crash happened at 11.30am on the corner of Queen and Mary streets, just one street from the busy centre of Yeppoon's CBD.

Queensland Fire and Rescue Service officers secured the scene while ambulance officers attended to the man.

Within five minutes they had taken him to Yeppoon Hospital. He was then transported to Rockhampton Hospital where he died later in the afternoon.

An ambulance spokesman said the man had suffered multiple fractures and multiple system injuries both internal and external.

The driver of the other vehicle was uninjured.
