BEING true to yourself as an artist was one of the most important messages Yeppoon singer Eloise Cosgrove learnt during a two-week workshop at the Australian Academy of Country Music.

The 18-year-old was selected among 23 other up and coming musicians and five band members chosen from across Australia and New Zealand to attend the academy.

The workshops were held in the lead up to the iconic Tamworth Country Music Festival, which Eloise got to experience on and off the stage.

"We did a graduation concert at the end of the two weeks as an opening for the festival, it was so much fun," she said.

Eloise, who writes her own songs, said the workshop included co-writing with well-known artists as well as guest speakers like Kasey Chambers and Amber Lawrence.

"Hearing them speak about the industry and their journey makes you want to work hard even more to get there," the aspiring singer said.

"A lot of the artists said, stay true to who are and who you want to be and you'll get there. Because often they would be the ones told they probably wouldn't get that far in the industry."

The local teen, who has owned a guitar since she was 8 years old, said it was a full-on two weeks but an invaluable experience she'll always remember.

"My ultimate goal is to make this my career," she said.

"Right now I'm practising every day and starting to try and get gigs around the area and hopefully record something in the next couple of years."
