Empire rises above the rest at the Queensland Tourism Awards
THE towering Empire Apartment Hotel has risen above its competition to win gold in the new tourism business category at the 2015 Queensland Tourism Awards.
More than 80 accolades were handed out at the awards in front of 900 guests at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre last night.
Beef Australia 2015 was awarded the bronze in the major festivals and events category and Capricorn Enterprise's Southern Great Barrier Reef Project 2020 took out bronze in the Richard Power award for destination marketing.
Four of the 150 award nominations came from the Bundaberg, Rockhampton and Gladstone area.
A panel of industry experts assessed written submissions and travelled throughout Queensland to experience the nominated businesses' services before choosing winners.
Queensland Tourism Industry Council chief Daniel Gschwind ) said the awards provided the opportunity to pay homage to the hardworking, dedicated individuals and organisations that had helped shape and transform the industry.
Tourism Minister Kate Jones and Queensland Airports chief Chris Mills praised the winners' work.
