Encore episode of Wonderland finally drew me in

GEE that Peter Allen was a wise one.

The flashy entertainer wrote lyrics like "everything old is new again", "time is a traveller" and "the more I see you".

All three encapsulate perfectly the two established shows that I have heartily re-embraced - and they run back to back on the same night, on the same network.

Wonderland (Ten, Wednesdays 8.40pm) never really grabbed me when it premiered last year. I was hoping for a new Secret Life Of Us, but found it lacking and tuned out.

On a recent lazy holiday afternoon I caught an encore episode and was drawn in. Brooke Satchwell and Jessica Tovey are assured, comfortable and lovely to watch, while Anna Samford is captivating.

They guys share an ordinariness that makes them accessible and likeable; and overall the stories are appealing.

It takes skill to present regular, everyday life in a slick, commercial-TV package. Wonderland does it.

The Good Wife (Ten, Wednesdays 9.30pm) is a salted caramel milkshake with a chaser of gold-plated Lindt balls-indulgence. It got way too rich (read: complicated, unsatisfying) for me in recent years and I switched off.

And just as well. I would have hit the roof had I invested so much in the Alicia-Will they or won't they plotline only to see Will shot dead at the end of Season Five.

But the early mail on Season Six is good. Kalinda, who has always intrigued me, has a number of lovers return to the fray; Alicia is considering a tilt at her husband's old job and Diane might just join Florrick/Agos as long as certain conditions are met.

Good shows do that. Let you back in even if you've missed whole chunks of plot or, gasp, an entire season. Nice to see you again, old friends.

Other good news: the ABC is bringing back Julia Zemiro's Home Delivery, tracing Dave Hughes' roots in episode one on October 15 at 9pm.
