The epidemic gripping our roads

MORE than 100 motorists a month are having their licences cancelled, suspended or amended due to concerns for their health.

The Sunday Mail can reveal 6500 licences between 2012 and 2016 were suspended, cancelled or amended due to a medical condition, and a further 1808 were surrendered over the same period for medical reasons, the Courier Mail reports.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads has received more than 250,000 new "medical condition notifications" since 2012.

More than 14,000 of these notifications were passed on to the department by a third party, such as a medical professional.
