Ergon Energy staff donate white goods to desperate charities

FROM white goods to kitchen essentials, clothing and bedding, employees at Ergon Energy Retail were last week called on to deliver urgently needed items to support local charities.

Charities across regional Queensland are in urgent need of essential items for their clients and Ergon Energy Retail employees, including the Rockhampton office, banded together to support them.

Employees challenged each other to donate quality essential items to online charity GIVIT.

Then through GIVIT, donations went directly to local charities requesting those items on behalf of their clients. Charities such as domestic violence shelters, disability centres, emergency relief accommodation and community support groups.

More than 160 items were donated including washing machines, fridges, TV's, dining suites, bedding, clothing, baby items, iPad's, vacuums, personal hygiene products and more.

In addition, thousands of dollars were donate through GIVIT to help those affected by recent disaster, including the devastating Ravenshoe café explosion.

Ergon Energy Retail General Manager Customer Experience and Marketing Brett Milne said the teams were proud to get behind GIVIT and support local charities across Queensland.

"Our employees are members of the local communities so they were honoured to be given the opportunity to actually make a difference and help fellow community members," Mr Milne said.

"While challenging each other to provide donations to GIVIT, the team also did their best to spread awareness to friends and family of the great work of GIVIT and the charities they support.

"Many have told me they have been heartened by the experience and look forward to continuing to support GIVIT into the future."

GIVIT Founder and CEO, Juliette Wright, said the generous donations will help GIVIT's goal of ensuring every charity has what it needs through the simple act of giving.

"GIVIT has facilitated almost 200,000 donations to assist those in need and supports more than 1,000 of Australia's most trusted charities," Ms Wright said

"We are very grateful for Ergon Energy Retail staff throwing support behind local charities by not only donating items and money, but also raising awareness within the community.

"This support will make a huge difference to many local resident's lives as one simple item has the ability to pull someone else out of poverty."
