Excuses, excuses to skip the gym

THIS week I copped out of my personal training session due to being house bound with a sick child.

A weak excuse, I know, but I couldn't think of anything else because the dog ate my notebook at my grandmother's funeral.

However, I must admit I was daunted by the idea of another hard PT Power workout and secretly enjoyed the enforced day off.

Shawn had set a homework workout schedule for me and I really got stuck into it this week.

Hitting Shelley's Beach for my daily swim, I spent a bit of time before diving in, completing a series of star jumps, push-ups and sit-ups.

They have maintained my increasing fitness levels through the week, even if I have felt a little strange bouncing around on the beach.

Speaking of strange - this week, the waves have been awesome and on Thursday I spotted what I thought was a pale curved stick in the wave in front of me, only for the boys to yell out "snake!" as they saw it undulate through the water.

On Sunday, surfing on a wave, I spotted a little flat fish that appeared to be smiling and having a great time as he zipped along.

In addition to my homework tasks, I continue lifting weights early in the morning, working my upper body one day and legs the next.

Although I love lifting weights and believe that this is the most effective way to change your body, I find cardio machines uninspiring.

And the thought of spending 15 minutes on the treadmill in order to do my weight routine often distracts me from going to the gym.

So I bought myself a new mountain bike and ride to the gym in an easy and fun 15 minutes.

And zooming up the hills with little effort.
