Explosive team travel to Bowen after bomb was found on beach
AN EXPLOSIVE Ordinance Disposal team from Townsville have travelled to the Bowen area after a large item was found on an isolated beach.
Police are calling it suspicious at this stage after someone reported the object, believing it was a Second World War bomb.
A police spokesman said the team from the North Queensland Joint Logistic Unit were expected to arrive early afternoon.
"It's on the beach in a tidal area," the spokesman said.
"They have to wait for the tide to go down."
A Defence spokesperson said they were unable to provide a photo of the item and said a suitable method of disposal would be determined after the EOD team arrived at the location and identified the object.
