Eye on illness

THIS week is National Diabetes Week and Diabetes Australia is encouraging people with the illness to have their eyes checked.

The Centre of Eye Research Australia found 35 percent of Australians with diabetes did not have full eye checks every two years.

About 17 percent had undetected diabetic retinopathy.

There are around 300,000 Aussies who have some degree of diabetic retinopathy and around 65,000 gave sight-threatening diabetic retinopathy.
