Faiumu off overseas

DRESSED casually in shorts, a T-shirt, sneakers and a cap, David Faiumu stopped briefly at Rockhampton Courthouse yesterday.

The former New Zealand rugby league international was given his passport back after paying $8000 to the District Court registry, which will go to bashing victim Ashley Anderson.

Judge Grant Britton ordered Faiumu pay the compensation before midday yesterday after sentencing the former North Queensland Cowboys star to a suspended 18-month jail term.

Faiumu has said he wants to move on with his life after pleading guilty to causing grievous bodily harm to Mr Anderson in the Rockhampton CBD on November 23, 2007.

Sitting outside the court registry yesterday, Faiumu told The Morning Bulletin he would stay in Rockhampton before jetting back to his English Super League team tomorrow.
