Family loses house in Jericho fire

A FAMILY of six looks set to spend their Christmas in emergency accommodation after their home in Jericho burnt down yesterday.

A man noticed smoke coming from under his house around 11am and quickly evacuated his wife and five kids.

As Jericho doesn’t have an on-call fire service, crews had to travel 53km from Alpha to fight the blaze.

By the time the crews arrived the fire had destroyed the house.

Detectives and scenes of crime investigators from Longreach attended the scene and are still investigating the cause of the fire.

The small community of Jericho rallied to support the family as they were set up in emergency accommodation and given food, clothing and bedding.
