Family's farewell for life of party

FAMILY and friends have begun arriving from around the world to support the family of Joel Namoa, who died following an incident at Mackay's Andergrove Tavern on Friday night.

The former champion rugby league player, 31, was unconscious when emergency services arrived in Andergrove Rd about 9pm and he was rushed to the Mackay Base Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

His body is believed to have been brought to Rockhampton on the weekend for a post-mortem examination.

About seven police vehicles converged on the area and the Andergrove Tavern was sent into lockdown as a major police investigation was launched.

“People can't believe he's gone,” Joel's father George said at his Bedford Rd home yesterday.

“He was always the life of the party.”
