Fantasea takes out tourism award

WHITSUNDAY-BASED tourism company Fantasea Adventure Cruising has won Australia's top tourism award for the second year in a row.

The ferry service business took home the Gold Award for Major Tour and/or Transport Operator at the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards, in Cairns.

Fantasea beat other popular tourism companies including Great Southern Rail, Rottnest Express and Spirit of Tasmania.

Fantasea Adventure Cruising general manager Rob Addis said the new award was a reflection of the team's hard work.

"We love what we do and it shows," Mr Addis said.

"Every cruise we do offers such an experience.

"But ultimately it's the guest's own experience that counts."

Mr Addis said he was thrilled with the award which was won on Thursday night and said the hard work was not slowing down.

"We're working towards (winning) it again next year," he said.

"All you need is the right attitude so you can keep improving."

He said the ferry services took guests to unique places like Hamilton Island, Whitehaven Beach and the Great Barrier Reef.

"We have our own Reefworld pontoon out there (Hardy Reef)," Mr Addis said.

"People can see all the coral and fish.

"We even have a package where they can spend a night on the reef."

Queensland Tourism Industry Council (QTIC) chief executive Daniel Gschwind said that Queensland's tourism operators had done the state proud at this year's awards.

"For Fantasea Adventure Cruising to take out the top award for Australian Major Tour and/or Transport Operator for the second year in a row is an exceptional feat and testament to their hard work over the past 12 months," he said.
