Fast-track to energy industry jobs

THE first participants in the Queensland Workforce Skilling Strategy Bundaberg have started their training, with jobseekers in the welding and concreting programs doing flood recovery work at Bundaberg Port.

The program will recruit 100 jobseekers over the next six months, giving them the opportunity to gain valuable skills that will provide a pathway into jobs in the booming Central Queensland region.

Energy Skills Queensland project co-ordinator Tracey Smith said the program was not only about alleviating Bundaberg's high unemployment rate, it would also ensure the state's energy industry had access to the skilled workforce it needs.

"The program is revolutionising the training process by tailoring learning to ensure participants meet employers' demands," Mrs Smith said.

"Participants of our fully funded program will undertake industry training, participate in work experience and complete job readiness preparation which will give them the direction they need to springboard into their careers in the energy industry."

Mrs Smith said every participant would work on various revitalisation projects around Bundaberg as part of the work readiness aspect of their training.

Energy Skills Queensland is now recruiting eligible jobseekers into the Queensland Workforce Skilling Strategy Bundaberg program for careers in construction, commercial cleaning, asset maintenance, concreting, hospitality, engineering, electrotechnology and maritime operations.
