ONE man is dead after a fatal crash between a tow truck and a b-double at 5.50am just south of The Caves on the Bruce Highway.

Central region traffic co-ordinator Acting Inspector Steve Hall said the man, who has yet to be identified, died at the scene.

Insp Hall said the Bruce Highway would be closed for most of the day, with detours for small vehicles in place.

He said the detours did not cater for heavy vehicles.

Insp Hall said the highway should be reopened by 3pm.

Insp Hall said initial investigations indicate the accident between a tilt-tray tow-truck and the b-double was a head-on collision.

He said the driver of the other truck was taken to Rockhampton Hospital with minor injuries.
