Yeppoon fishermen found safe

THREE fishermen who failed to return as planned from a trip to the Duke Islands group sparked a major search and rescue operation Wednesday.

Worried relatives raised the alarm Wednesday morning, 19 hours after they were due to get back.

Yeppoon Water Police, RACQ Capricorn Helicopter Rescue and the Coast Guard launched a co-ordinated search at about 11am.

The men were found safe and well south of Marble Island at about 12.45pm. Their vessel had suffered a mechanical failure.

The Coast Guard picked up the men and towed the craft to Stanage Bay.
