Female prison worker 'wrote letters to inmate'

A FEMALE prison officer who allegedly wrote “inappropriate” letters to an inmate at the Capricornia Correctional Centre, on Rockhampton’s outskirts, has resigned.

The 27-year-old woman was suspended last week when an investigation was launched into her conduct.

A Correctional Services spokesman said authorities were made aware of her correspondence with an inmate on Thursday, which sparked the ethical standards investigation.

He said the allegations were that the prison officer’s written letters were “inappropriate”.

The woman, who had worked at the prison for almost 2½ years, resigned on Sunday.
