Fifty Shades of bondage sells well in Rockhampton

IT'S not just cinemas that are profiting from the new Fifty Shades of Grey film.

Sex shops in Rockhampton are experiencing increased sales as people try to recreate Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele's taboo relationship.

Fifty Shades Darker, the second installation of the trilogy, was released in cinemas today and follows the increasingly dark sexual relationship of a businessman and college graduate.

Love Hearts sex shop sales representative Renee Truss said her customer's interest in bondage related items had increased with the release of the film.

"Definitely since the movies been advertised we've had quite a few people come in interested in more the bondage side of things,” Renee said.

"We do have a bit of a range in store actually to do with Fifty Shades of Grey with Sir Grey's Tie and mask and all the rest of it.

"We've also got just your normal range of stuff we do stock ourselves and ever since the movie has come out so many people come in just for whips, chains, masks and all the rest of it.

"We did an event in store for the Fifty Shades of Grey movie which I guess kind of encouraged everyone as well, but we have had quite a few sales to do with bondage.”

Renee said couples of all ages have been buying the store's fetish gear, keen to add a bit of experimentation to their relationships.

"We have heaps of young couples, we have heaps of old couples, we have heaps of middle-aged couples come in,” she said.

"I do find with your bondage it is usually couples between the ages of 18 up to 40, usually from 40 onwards you won't find people getting into whips and handcuffs.

"Whether that's the age or not, I'm not sure.”

While being tied-up isn't everyone's cup of tea, Renee said advice is always available to those who want it.

"Reasonably everyone knows their limit where you've got your whips and stuff, there's some people who stay away from it,” she said.

"Then there's some people that absolutely love it, I guess it's each to your own.

"Some people don't really like asking questions when they come in to the store, we do try to make them feel as comfortable as we possibly can.”
