Finally! A reboot done right

IF you're like me, chances are you're getting pretty sick and tired of the constant reboots.

In fact you could almost describe 2017 as the year for it - that's all classic Hollywood seems to be spitting out.

It's depressing.

But in the case of Spider-man Homecoming, there is of course method in this madness.

While many will argue the previous instalments (Toby McGuire and Andrew Garfield) one way or another, some fans will argue the 'necessity' behind them in order for the birth of Homecoming.

Where McGuire's Peter Parker lacked confidence and a somewhat 'loser' demeanour, he had heart where it mattered most.

Garfield's version almost performs a 180 on the classic neighbourhood hero - a necessary comeback after the 'emo-dancing-wtf' venom disaster that was Spider-man 3 (lets never speak of this again).

But despite reboot after reboot, Spider-man Homecoming actually comes with a purpose, a back story and a Peter Parker to really warm up to - enter Tom Holland.

Coming off the ... with his experience with the Avengers in Captain America's Civil War, Peter returns home to his Aunt May under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr).

Attempting to fall back into his normal daily routine, Peter is distracted with the obsession to become more than just a friendly neighbourhood Spider-man.

But his skills are put to the test when he discovers a threat emerges putting the lives of everyone he loves at risk.

Homecoming possesses all the charm fans of the comic and cartoons have grown to love over the decades.

Holland rejuvenates the hero as a vibrant teenager, naïve, wholesome and typically rebellious in all the right places.

His accomplice, Ned (Jacob Batalon is also quite the bag of laughs when he discovers that his best friend is "The Spider-man from You tube”.

The banter between Parker and his class mates in daily school life is witty, and the cameo appearances of the comic king Stan Lee, a VERY patriotic and moral-high-ground Captain America (Chris Evans) and Community's Donald Glover is brilliant.

Despite its third reboot, Homecoming knows not to take itself so seriously, and in many moments throughout the film, has a joke at its expense to real the audience back in to the insanity of the repetitious nature of the movie culture that is all 'unoriginal'.

Plus the Spider suit has received a phenomenal upgrade since its last appearances with an array of insane gadgetry thanks to "Mr Stank”.

Michael Keaton plays the villain with brilliance and dynamics - but then again you would expect nothing less from this former Batman of 1989.

I will very rarely applaud the point of a remake, but in this case I will put my hands together.

Come for the popcorn at least and stay for the end credits.
