17-year-old only picked up her formal dress two weeks ago

GEORGIA Smith turned heads on the red carpet last night in a stunning orange and pewter gown.

The 17-year-old only picked up her dress two weeks ago for yesterday's Rockhampton State High School formal.

Central Queensland is in the grips of formal season with a couple of events held in Rockhampton last night and more to come today and tomorrow.

While it can be a stressful and expensive time Georgia was all smiles yesterday shortly after putting on her gown, which she picked up for just under $300.

She said she was excited to finally see her hair, make-up and dress all come together for the first time.

"I am so happy," she said.

She said she knew the right dress would come along and it would all work out.

Georgia said she spent a reasonable amount of money on her formal attire and tried to budget where she could.

"I wanted to keep a budget because after all it is only five hours and I'm sure it is going to be amazing but I didn't need to spend a fortune," she said.

Georgia's sister helped her budget even more and paid for her hair and make-up which was done at Floss's Hair Studio and Erikka's All Occasion Beauty.

Georgia said she was excited through the walk through and was happy to have a good friend partnering her at the formal.
