Firefighters helmets melt while battling house fire today

2.20PM: THE helmets of firefighters battling a blaze in Allenstown this afternoon melted.

The fire started after 1pm today and reports indicate a woman and her two dogs in the house escaped unharmed.

It is believed a police officer driving past first noticed the smoke.

The house is located on the corner of Nicholson St and Costello St.

1.30pm: EMERGENCY services are the scene of a house fire in Allenstown.

Firefighters are extinguishing the fire in a house on the corner of Nicholson St and Gladstone Rd.

Media reports say a woman and her two dogs escaped the fire.
