Firefighters battle large grassfire near Stanwell

MULTIPLE Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) crews are on scene at a large vegetation fire burning north-east of the Stanwell township (near Rockhampton).

There is currently no threat to property and crews are constructing containment lines with machinery.

A smoke hazard is affecting the township of Stanwell and also Alton Downs.

Residents are advised to keep windows and doors closed and keep medications close by for any respiratory conditions.

Motorists are urged to drive to conditions if smoke is affecting road visibility.

If residents feel their property is at threat they should phone Triple Zero (000) immediately.
