First arrests made under Newman's bikie gang laws

THE Queensland Police Service has made the first arrests of members of criminal motorcycle gangs under new legislation which came into effect yesterday.

Around 10am, officers from the Cairns Criminal Investigation Branch took two members from the Odins Warriors criminal motorcycle gang into custody when they were located at the gang's clubhouse in Spence Street, Cairns which is a prescribed place under the new legislation.

The two 47-year-old men, one from Sarina, the other from Cairns, have both been charged with being a participant in a criminal organisation entering a prescribed place.

They are due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court this afternoon.
